MOTHER VALANIA

Mother Valania
According to gypsy folklore all Valar descend from Mother Valania. Valania was a peasant woman who happened upon an injured man on the side of road. He had a gaping wound from which energy was pouring. Valania realized this man was from another world, and had been sucked into Testoria by the mist wall. He was quickly losing strength.

Valania used the mental magic she had learned from the village healer, and linked her mind to his. She learned his name, Raam, and also learned of the energy he needed to live. He needed the energy of the five senses.

Without hesitation, to save the alien being, she focused the energy of sight, and went blind; the energy of sound, and went deaf; the energy of taste, and her tongue went numb; the energy of smell, and lost all ability to smell; the energy of sensation, and her nerves went numb. She then collapsed and became unconscious.

When she awoke, the man was gone, but a voice spoke in her mind: "Because of your sacrifices, giving a part of yourself so that I may live, I now instill you with a part of me. You have enabled me to return home, and from my home, I will forever watch you and your family. Any of your family may call upon me and I will aid them. Blessings to you, Valania. May our spirits meet again."

Valania then saw a flash of light, and her senses were returned. She also realized that her "sixth sense," her intuitive gifts, were stronger than ever. She learned to use this gift to help others through divination and the making of charms.

As time went on, Valania had children, and her children's children had children, until many generations came to be. Valania's descendants were called gypsies. Like their ancestor, they liked to travel the land.

The gift was mostly passed on through blood, but others were found to hold the gifts who weren't born into gypsy families. Some have been "adopted" into gypsy families, and are said to have received the "kiss of Raam." They are given a gold earring, the way in which all gypsies recognize one another. That is usually followed by a feast, with much singing and dancing.
