Tome Guardians, sometimes known as Book Gargoyles, are magical creatures that can only be hit with magical weapons or fire based attacks. Although they vary in appearance, the average Tome Guardian is a 2' humanoid with leathery, bat-like wings, a barbed tail, and sharp, twisted horns. Its skin is a dark red and its horns and jagged teeth are a gleaming white.

Tome Guardians are created by powerful wizards to protect their valuable tomes of magic. If a book is opened without the correct command word being uttered the creature rises as a mist from the open book's pages attacking the opener of the book and his companions. A Tome Guardian will never attack it's creator.

Like Gargoyles, Tome Guardians are not effected by Sleep or Charm spells. The Referee should never use a Tome Guardian unless the PCs have at least 1 magical item.
